The National Electrical Code (NEC) is published every 3 years by the National Fire Protection Association. It is offered as the minimum safety standard for electrical installations, but is not a law until adoped by the respective state or municipal governing body. If you are preparing to take an exam, be certain that you find out when your testing authority will be changing over to the 2008 NEC. The 2008 NEC is now available and features some major revisions from the last edition. This is the standard of reference in the electrical industry.
